HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education or Care Setting

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies.

This course is aimed at early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in and outside school hours care and vacation programs, new parents, school leavers who are looking for work in the child care industry as well as existing teachers and child care providers seeking to renew their qualifications.

It is recommended, by the Australian Resuscitation Council, that a CPR refresher program is undertaken every 12 months and your first aid qualification is updated every 3 years.

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

Reading and writing – a learner will be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts.

Oral communication – a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts.

Digital literacy – a learner will be able to use a variety of digital devices and their applications/programs/software within a variety of contexts.

AWARD ISSUED

On Successful Completion of the Course and verification of your USI Number, students will receive a PDF Statement of Attainment showing you have fulfilled the requirements of HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.

Current industry standards recommend renewing this certification every 3 years, with the CPR component being updated every 12 months. This is simply a matter of doing a refresher course with a Registered Training Organisation.

BLENDED LEARNING DELIVERY

First Aid Tamworth utilise a blended learning structure for the delivery of our Nationally Accredited CPR and First Aid Training courses.
The Online Learning is informative and interactive, encompassing the essential, relevant CPR and First Aid information required for students to gain the skills and knowledge to provide CPR/first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
All Participants will be required to complete online Theory Modules to fulfill the Knowledge/theory requirements of the enrolled training program.
All Participants are required to attend a Face to Face Practical Assessment session, to demonstrate the required skills in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, scenarios and simulations to assess the students skills and knowledge.
It is preferred and encouraged that students complete the Online Learning prior to attending the selected Face to Face Practical Assessment session.

PRE COURSE LEARNING

The Online Learning is accessed via our RTO’s Student Learning Portal (www.bwfat.com.au).
On enrolment students are emailed an enrolment activation link. Once students have activated their enrolment they will have unlimited access to the RTO’s Online learning Portal for the enrolment timeframe. 
At the completion of each Online Learning module, students will be required to successfully complete a knowledge assessment to demonstrate they have gained the knowledge required to complete the module.First Aid Tamworth deliver training in a blended learning format. All theory requirements/components of the training course are delivered via out RTO’s (Businesswise First Aid) online learning platform. Pre-course theory modules will be accessible to students to complete once student’s are enrolled and have activated their enrolment. We encourage students to complete the online learning modules prior to attending the face to face component of the course.

COURSE TIMES

Our Community Courses are scheduled to Start at 9am.
The Face to Face component of our Community First Aid Course usually requires approx. 4-5 hours

ASSESSMENT

There are both theory (online learning) and practical assessment (F2F session) requirements for the HLTAID012 course to ensure that you have gained the required knowledge and ability to perform the skills in this unit.

Assessment Methods

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Practical demonstrations/skills observations
  • Short answer questioning
  • Completion of an incident report

It is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed for 2 minutes on the floor.
